We are delighted to announce that, following a congregational vote on Sunday, October 11, Carleton Memorial United Church has appointed Rev. Dr. Jennifer Kinya Lairangi, PhD as our new full-time Minister. She will begin her ministry with us on November 1.
Rev. Dr. Lairangi is an ordained minister of the Gospel, scholar, educator, and community development practitioner with extensive experience in pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, theological education, and church leadership. Her ministry is rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ and a deep conviction that the Church is called to share God’s love, nurture faith, build meaningful relationships, and participate in God’s transforming work in the world.
Throughout her ministry, she has served in various capacities, with a special passion for pastoral care, spiritual formation, church growth, community empowerment, and mentorship. She finds great joy in walking alongside people through life’s joys and challenges, offering a listening ear, spiritual guidance, encouragement, prayer, and compassionate care.
Her understanding of ministry is grounded in the belief that the Gospel speaks to the whole person and the whole community. She is passionate about creating spaces where people feel welcomed, valued, and supported — where faith is nurtured, gifts are recognized, and individuals are encouraged to use their abilities to bring hope and positive change to their communities.
Academic Background
Rev. Dr. Lairangi holds a PhD in Religious Studies from Kenya Methodist University, master’s degrees in Religion, Society and Global Issues and Intercontextual Theology from Norway, a Postgraduate Diploma in Spiritual and Leadership Management, and a Bachelor of Theology. Her research explores the connections between faith-based initiatives, church growth, leadership, economic empowerment, and sustainable development.
Her Vision for Our Community
Acts 2:42–47 deeply informs Rev. Dr. Lairangi’s vision of Christian community, one grounded in teaching, fellowship, prayer, generosity, and care for one another. Guided by this vision, she seeks to serve with humility, compassion, and integrity, helping to nurture a church where everyone can experience belonging, grow in faith, and share in God’s mission of love and service.
We look forward to welcoming Rev. Dr. Lairangi to Carleton Memorial United Church and to the ministry we will share together, beginning November 1. Please join us in extending a warm welcome as she joins our community.
