This year for Lent, we are excited to present this series to you. Why are we excited?
For a number of reasons, but the main reason is that each of our guests have lived experiences that you will benefit from. They have navigated change in their lives; they have made real choices in an attempt to improve their lives and the lives of those around them. Their willingness to share their stories is testimony to that fact.
The inspiration for this series comes from her Excellency Adrienne Clarkson, a former Governor General who has written extensively about the concept of Citizenship and belonging. I had the pleasure of meeting her recently where I shared some ideas with her around developing this series.
Who will be visiting us?
March 12 – Constable Kevin Williams of the Ottawa Police force. Constable Williams has been the Sudan with the United Nations and is a community police officer here in our area of Ottawa.
March 19 – Susan Alexander-Kumar, a Registered Massage Therapist here in Ottawa. Some of Susan’s practice takes place at the Pearly and in her “spare time”, she is studying theology at St-Paul’s U.
March 26 – Denis Raymond, a teacher with experience in the northern Canada and a native of Ottawa. He is now studying Social Work at Ottawa U.
April 2 – Sonja Weilgart-Whitehead, originally from Herring Cove, Nova Scotia, Sonja is an English Major at Carleton U with ambitions to enter the field of Social Work. Sonja has found a home at Carleton U because it is the only university in Canada equipped to accommodate her physical needs.
The “bookends” of this series are:
March 5 – Communion Sunday – where we will be introducing the series and finding our common ground as a worshiping community of faith.
April 9 – Palm Sunday – where we will be hearing from Tessa and the Sunday School to hear their take on the subject.
